The illustration depicts the legendary dinner in the mould of the iguanodon held by the sculptor Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins on New Years Eve 1853. Hawkins invited leading academics and notable persons of the day with the intention of garnering good press at the launch of the worlds first dinosaur sculptures to be installed in Crystal Palace Park.
